The Ironchef movement began back in 2000 when the Food TV Network began to air episodes of a popular Japanese television show called Iron Chef on a regular basis. A large fan base immediately appeared and embraced the new show, and it's popularity grew on to IRC Networks. Fans created fan channels all across the globe. Places to talk about the latest episodes and share opinions. A small channel was eventually started by several fans on the GamesNET IRC network. Things ran smoothly until the fateful night that Food TV aired an IronChef marathon. Users and fans swelled the meager #ironchef channel to over 130 users. after several action packed episodes, people continued to join and invited their friends. Several users changed their channel topics to advertise the IronChef channel. Later that evening some GamesNET staff members began to feel threatened by the large amount of people enjoying the IronChef marathon in the #ironchef channel.
GamesNET, long known for it's abusive admins at the time, began a crackdown, led by the tyrannical DevilM, on the innocent users enjoying a night of pageantry and cooking. With over 130 users in the channel, The GamesNET Gestapo swooped in and unregistered the channel and instituted martial law. After many complaints to GamesNET by the users, GamesNET decided to kill every user in the channel. Users reconnected to the network and to their horror found that #ironchef had been locked down and was not joinable. Some users who joined the network support channel to protest were immediately banned from the network. At this point splinter groups began to form and started fighting back, not only for themselves, but for the sake of the network. Raids were conducted against strategic GamesNET Network channels and staff members. Several staff members were knocked off the network in the ensuing chaos. The channel began to reform in #iron_chef, but this was soon shut down by another massive takeover by the GamesNET Gestapo. Skirmishes continued into the evening as users loyal to a free GamesNET battled for their lives against incredible odds. At this point we estimated that over 180 users had been killed, many multiple times. The amount of g-lines is unknown but it was considerable. Fighting eventually spilled over into other large channels across the network, GamesNET staff targeting all users alike, regardless of their innocence. Eventually the fighting died out, however skirmishes continued across the network for weeks following that fateful night
GamesNET's official response posted later that week.
